You already know why it’s so important to do physical exercises – today i want to tell you more about resistance bands, because I believe they are one of the most effective way to exercise if you’re over 50.

Resistance bands come in a variety of types, lengths and tensions. Some are flat in composition, while others consist of a tubular band that’s often surrounded by a protective material. The latter option comes with handles for gripping, while the former type lacks hand grips. Here are some of the advantages of incorporating resistance bands in your daily workout:

  • They increase coordination. Because there’s tension throughout the exercises, you have to stabilize your body.  Also, training with resistance bands allows you to perform exercises in multiple angles. This not only develops better functional core strength, but also allows you to train in multiple postures. This, in turn, improves core strength, balance, and low-level agility.
  • They are suitable for all fitness levels. Resistance bands are available in multiple strength levels with different colored bands having a different resistance. This means that as you progress in your exercises and need more of a challenge you can progress in to a new band of a different color.
  • They are often used in injury recovery and prevention. Although you often see resistance bands used at the gym or by fitness enthusiasts, they were first used in sports medicine for injury prevention and recovery. In sports training, a common goal is to work isolated muscles. This can’t always be done using weight machines. When the underused muscles are strengthened, this helps to prevent future injuries.If you are injured, resistance bands can come to the rescue. If you try to do strenuous exercise after an injury, you run the risk of harming yourself further. With resistance bands, you can exercise isolated muscles without burdening the muscles, tendons, joints and bones of the injured area. When you use resistance bands to exercise the injury-free parts of your body, you benefit from increased blood circulation, which assists with speeding up your recovery.
  • They are easy to store and easy to travel with. In most homes there is not room enough to have a gym setup with weights and bikes, etc. however resistance bands are great as they take up very little space and can easily be rolled up and stored. They are also extremely light weight which means that if you are going traveling and would like to continue to perform strengthening exercises you can easily take it with you and as they are so versatile you can perform many similar exercises to your regular gym program!
